The Rich Communications Suite has been heralded as marking a major revolution in personal mobile communications. With promising signs from early trials and widespread support amongst the mobile operator and vendor ecosystem, many in the industry believe that RCS will significantly change the nature of personal communications.
For the first time, multiple capabilities such as messaging; IM and presence; voice and video communications; and multimedia file sharing will be available from a single mobile client, available across multiple handset devices.
But with alternative communications platforms building their own momentum, there are those who suspect RCS may be too little, too late. Who is right? What are the opportunities presented by RCS?
